Manual placement favors changing tasks
Manual snapping or keyboard commands let you choose when and where a window moves. They work well when projects change shape, some apps have minimum sizes, or one window temporarily deserves more space. The cost is repeating placement and tolerating gradual drift.
Automatic tiling favors stable rules
An automatic tiler assigns each new or removed window a position according to a layout rule. It is useful when many windows share predictable roles and keyboard-driven focus matters. The cost is reflow: opening a dialog or temporary window can reshape the set, and floating exceptions, full-screen apps, and multi-display changes require rules.
Test the real workload
Use the same project for several days. Record how often you manually correct an automatic layout and how often you rebuild a manual one. Check small screens, portrait displays, full-screen Spaces, app minimum sizes, and display disconnects. Prefer the simpler method when both produce the same usable workspace.
Neither method records why windows belong together. Wallo can group current windows by goal but does not tile them automatically or manually; combine tools only when both geometry and project identity are demonstrated needs.
