To group apps in Stage Manager, make the primary app active, then drag another app from the recent-app strip on the left into the center. The grouped apps appear together when you return to that Stage Manager set.
Build a task-sized group
Start from one action, such as comparing a draft with a webpage. Bring the draft forward, then add the browser. Add a third app only if the current action needs it. A group should represent simultaneous working material rather than every app associated with a broad project.
Resize and overlap the group’s windows as needed. Stage Manager manages the visible set while preserving a central focus area and recent sets along the side.
Configure application windows
In Desktop & Dock settings, Stage Manager can show all available windows for an application at once or one window at a time. If the expected window seems absent, check this setting and click the app again before opening a duplicate.
The recent-app strip can also be hidden; move the pointer to the left edge to reveal it temporarily. Stage Manager requires “Displays have separate Spaces” to be enabled.
Ungroup when the action changes
Drag an app back to the left to remove it from the current group. This changes the visible Stage Manager set; it does not delete the app’s files or create a permanent project record.
Stage Manager groups apps and their windows around immediate focus. Wallo groups selected current windows and tasks under named goals. They can coexist, but adding both layers is useful only when you need both a visual set and a cross-app project label.
