To remove a blank page from a PDF on a Mac, open the file in Preview, show the page thumbnails, select the unwanted page, then press Delete or choose Edit > Delete. Check the nearby pages before deleting: a page that looks empty at a glance may contain a faint mark, a scan, or annotations you want to keep. Save the PDF and review the page sequence afterward.
Open the PDF in Preview and show its pages
Open the PDF in Preview. If it opens in another app, use Finder’s Open With > Preview command. In Preview, choose View > Thumbnails to display the pages in the sidebar. Apple also documents View > Contact Sheet as another way to display pages for deletion. Apple: Add, delete or move PDF pages in Preview on Mac
Thumbnails make it easier to scan a document’s page order and spot an obviously empty page among the surrounding content. If the sidebar is too narrow to see the miniatures clearly, Apple says you can widen it by dragging the sidebar separator. You can also click a thumbnail to go to that page in the document. Confirm the page is actually blank
Click the suspect thumbnail to view the full page. Inspect it before removing it. A plain-looking miniature may be hard to judge, so use the main document view to check for small text, faint scan content, marks near the edges, or annotations. If you are unsure whether the page belongs in the document, leave it in place until you can confirm; Preview’s delete action removes the selected page and its annotations.
A useful check is to compare the blank-looking page with the page before and after it. Consider whether the empty page separates sections or is intentional, such as a blank reverse side in a scanned document. The decision to remove it depends on the intended document, not just the page’s appearance.
Delete one blank page
Once you have confirmed the page should go, select its thumbnail in the sidebar. Press the Delete key, or use Edit > Delete from the menu bar. Apple documents both options for deleting selected pages in Preview. Apple: Add, delete or move PDF pages in Preview on Mac
After deletion, check that the thumbnail disappeared and that the remaining pages still appear in the intended order. Preview’s page operation removes the whole selected page; it is not a tool for erasing only a blank area within a page. If the page contains unwanted white space but also content you need, deleting it would discard that content too.
Remove several blank pages carefully
For multiple confirmed blank pages, select the page thumbnails you intend to remove, then press Delete or choose Edit > Delete. Apple’s instructions support selecting one or more pages for deletion. Before pressing Delete, verify the selection: removing a selected thumbnail deletes that page, including its annotations. Apple: Add, delete or move PDF pages in Preview on Mac
Work through the document in sections if there are many suspected blank pages. Select only pages you have checked, then inspect the resulting page sequence before continuing. This helps avoid treating an intentionally empty page or a faintly printed page as disposable.
Save and review the edited PDF
Save the document after removing pages. Then review the revised PDF in Preview: scan the thumbnails again and open the pages immediately before and after each deletion to make sure the sequence still makes sense. If you need to retain the original untouched, make a separate copy before editing and work on that copy.
Remember that deleting a page removes its annotations as well as its page content. If you notice an accidental deletion immediately, use Edit > Undo if available; otherwise, reopen your preserved original or another copy and repeat the edit more carefully. Apple’s guide confirms that annotations on a deleted page are removed along with it. Apple: Add, delete or move PDF pages in Preview on Mac
If the blank page does not appear in the sidebar
First confirm that the PDF is open in Preview, rather than being displayed in Finder’s Quick Look. Apple describes Quick Look as a way to preview a file without opening the full Preview app; use Open in Preview or open the PDF through Finder’s Open With menu to access Preview’s editing controls. If the blank page is hard to identify, use View > Thumbnails or View > Contact Sheet and click a candidate thumbnail to inspect it in the main pane. View options such as Single Page, Two Pages, or Continuous Scroll change how pages are displayed; they do not themselves delete a page. The page-level deletion action is performed by selecting the page thumbnail or contact-sheet page and choosing Delete or Edit > Delete. Preview is the relevant tool for this task: it provides the page thumbnails and documented page deletion controls. Wallo can help organize open Mac windows and to-dos locally by goal, with keyboard focusing, but it does not remove PDF pages; make the edit in Preview.
