macOS Command-Tab switches among applications. When one app owns several windows, reaching the app may still leave another selection step. AltTab offers a window-oriented switcher with previews and configurable behavior.
Keep Command-Tab for app-level work
The native switcher is already available, requires no third-party setup, and works well when each app has one relevant window. After reaching an app, use Command-backtick, its Window menu, or App Exposé for same-app windows.
Consider AltTab for direct window choice
AltTab’s current feature and FAQ pages describe open-window switching, previews, filters, and configurable release-versus-browse behavior. Test the windows you actually struggle with: identical titles, minimized windows, other Spaces, full-screen windows, and multiple displays.
Window previews require Screen Recording under macOS’s permission model, and window control may require Accessibility depending on the operation. Review what the app says it captures and stores; the permission name alone does not establish a privacy conclusion.
Preserve a fallback
Keep native switching usable while testing and avoid replacing familiar shortcuts until conflicts and failure states are understood. AltTab can coexist with Command-Tab. Wallo adds goal-level organization and keyboard navigation for assigned windows; it is not a drop-in replacement for every app or window switch in the system.
